City of Rochester and RCTC Engage Community as Discussions Continue on the Rochester Regional Sports Center

February 23, 2026 – ROCHESTER, MINN. – The City of Rochester and Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) invite community members to share input to inform ongoing discussions about the future of the Rochester Regional Sports Center, located on the RCTC campus at 851 30 Ave SE. As both partners continue conversations about their long-standing collaboration, community feedback will help shape how the shared facility may evolve to best support RCTC students and the broader Rochester community.

As part of these discussions, the City and RCTC are gathering insights from current users, youth and families, RCTC students and staff, older adults, and residents who may not yet have used the facility. The goal is to better understand how the existing spaces can continue to meet community and campus needs and support the facility’s ongoing role as a shared community and campus resource.

RCTC and the City have been exploring potential future maintenance needs and possible enhancements to the existing facility. These conversations include items such as replacement of the dome fabric or updates to interior spaces; however, no decisions have been finalized, and no commitments have been made regarding timing, funding, or specific improvements. Partners are also discussing whether longer-term ideas, like additional indoor court space or outdoor amenities, should be considered. Discussions remain underway, and no projects are being advanced at this time. Any future ideas would be shared publicly and via an identified process.

“Community engagement will focus on what is working well today, what opportunities may exist for the future, and what ideas community members believe would best support both campus and community users,” shared Jenna Bowman, City of Rochester’s Strategic Communications and Engagement Director. “This process builds on feedback gathered through previous recreation planning efforts and will support our shared commitment to good stewardship of this important partnership.”

Engagement opportunities will take place from February through March, with results informing future dialogue between RCTC and the City. More information, including engagement activities and project updates, is available on the project website: https://arcg.is/1WvKGq. In-person Open-house style sessions will be held at the Sports Center (851 30 Ave SE) from 4:30–6:30 p.m. on March 11, March 24, and March 25. Virtual open house sessions will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on March 25 and March 27; visit the project website for links. An online survey is available through March 23: https://polco.us/sfvmhe

The Rochester Regional Sports Center, co-developed by the City of Rochester and RCTC in 2002 with Local Sales Tax funding, includes an indoor field house with a 200-meter track and multipurpose courts, a performance basketball court, meeting and class spaces, and the Rochester Regional Stadium with a climate-controlled winter dome. Additional outdoor fields were developed between 1998 and 2011. The facilities, owned and managed by RCTC, continue to serve both the RCTC campus community and residents throughout the region.
