Roadway Name Change: Wayne Stillman Pkwy SW

July 24, 2024 – ROCHESTER, MINN. – The Rochester City Council approved an ordinance on July 15 to rename a section of 2nd Avenue SW and 7th Street SW to honor Wayne Stillman. The Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial Committee members requested this change to honor Stillman, who played a significant role in developing the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial.

New street signage was installed on July 22. The roadway name change begins at the intersection of 6th Street SW and 2nd Avenue SW, extends southerly and then westerly at the intersection of 7th Street SW, and ends at the intersection of 4th Avenue SW and George Gibbs Drive SW. The only address that has changed is the Soldiers Field Memorial, which is now 300 Wayne Stillman Pkwy SW.

The July 15 City Council Meeting Agenda Packet provides more information about the requested name change. The designation of 2nd Avenue SW and 7th Street SW to Wayne Stillman Parkway SW was a multi-department City/County partnership. The designation of Wayne Stillman Parkway SW was a coordinated effort between Olmsted County (GIS and E911 & Addressing departments) and the City of Rochester (Community Development and Public Works departments).
