Take Part in ‘Slow Mow Summer’ to Promote Sustainable Lawn Care

Post Date:04/28/2025

This summer, Rochester Parks & Recreation encourages residents to participate in 'Slow Mow Summer', an initiative promoting a more sustainable approach to lawn care. Residents can show their support by picking up a free 12”x18” yard sign at the Parks & Recreation Office inside Rochester City Hall during normal business hours. Limit one sign per household. You can also print and post a copy of the sign from the City of Rochester website

Make the Move from ‘No Mow’ to ‘Slow Mow’
‘Slow Mow Summer’ shifts the focus from no mowing to less frequent mowing, offering both environmental and practical benefits. This can help conserve water, reduce fertilizer use, and create healthier lawns that support pollinators.

Enforcement and Guidelines
May will serve as a transition month, allowing residents time to adjust their lawn care routines. While no strict enforcement will take place during this period, the City encourages residents to follow these principles to maintain healthy and manageable lawns.

To ensure compliance with City regulations, residents must keep their turf grass under 12 inches and manage noxious weeds. The goal is to strike a balance between sustainability and neighborhood upkeep.
