Bus Stop Improvements

Category: City Projects

The 2023 -2027 Transit Development Plan (TDP) identified updating bus stops as a capital asset need within the five -year period covered by the TDP. This type of capital investment into bus stop infrastructure is long overdue and presents an opportunity that will allow Rochester Public Transit (RPT) to make substantial uniform improvements to City bus stops and ultimately improve the rider experience.

RPT currently has 925 unique bus stops throughout the fixed route system. The number of stops in the RPT system and the unique layout of each stop pose some logistical challenges when designing and constructing improvements at each site.

The construction contract for this phase of the project includes 103 sites that will be renovated. The renovations include the installation of Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliant pads, walking surface improvements, new bus shelters and CCTV cameras.
