Rochester Public Library Foundation to Celebrate Grand Opening of New Nature-themed Baby Play Area at the Library

September 12, 2025 – ROCHESTER, MINN. - The Rochester Public Library Foundation (RPLF) and the Rochester Public Library (RPL) invite families and supporters to celebrate the grand opening of a new nature-themed baby play area in the Youth Services Play Spot on Monday, Sept. 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

The new space is designed specifically for babies and their caregivers, providing a safe, engaging environment that fosters early learning, play, and connection. The project was made possible through the generosity of the Rochester Public Library Foundation, with additional support from a grant provided by Minnesota Energy Resources and curated by RPL’s Youth Services staff.

The celebration will feature:

• A Baby Gym program in the Library Auditorium (10:30–11:30 a.m.)

• A Chamber ribbon cutting and mayoral proclamation in the Play Spot (10:45 a.m.)

• Refreshments in the Square Foot Gallery

“We are deeply grateful to Minnesota Energy Resources for their generous partnership in enriching the library’s play space, and to the many community members whose gifts strengthen literacy and lifelong learning for all. Their generosity is an inspiring reminder of the impact businesses and individuals can have when they invest in our library,” said RPLF Executive Director Brenda Kardock.

“This new play area reflects our library’s commitment to supporting families and building strong foundations for lifelong learning,” said Library Director Karen Lemke. “We are thrilled to welcome our youngest community members and their families to this beautiful, nature-inspired space.”
