Celebrating Park & Recreation Month

July 1, 2025 – ROCHESTER, MINN. – The City of Rochester is proud to join communities nationwide in celebrating Park and Recreation Month this July. This year's theme, “Build Together, Play Together,” highlights the important role parks and recreation play in bringing people together and supporting community growth.

Rochester has more than 100 parks, 85 miles of paved trails and over 3,500 acres of public space. Residents can enjoy playgrounds, picnic shelters, sports fields, beaches, dog parks and more.

The City of Rochester Parks & Recreation Department offers programs for all ages. This includes youth sports, adult leagues and inclusive activities for people of all abilities.

"Parks and recreation are essential to a strong and healthy community," said Paul Widman, Rochester Parks & Recreation Director. "This month is a great reminder to get outside, stay active and enjoy the shared spaces that bring us together."

Throughout the month, the department will highlight different areas of its work on social media. This includes parks and trails, recreation programs, forestry and the people who help keep it all running. Residents are encouraged to follow along and learn more about the many ways Parks & Recreation helps support a healthy and active community.
