PLAY BALL Baseball Camp Encourages Youth to Get in the Game

June 18, 2025 – ROCHESTER, MINN. – Mayor Kim Norton, in partnership with the Rochester Honkers, is encouraging young people to take part in PLAY BALL, an initiative by the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) and Major League Baseball (MLB). PLAY BALL promotes baseball by encouraging long-term participation. It introduces the game to kids who may not typically play and strengthens the connection for those already involved.

As part of Mayor Norton’s Year About Youth! (YAY) initiative, the Office of the Mayor is sponsoring 300 local youth to attend the Honkers Summer Camp this July.

“PLAY BALL is a great way to connect kids with a sport that builds teamwork, confidence and community,” said Mayor Norton. “I’m proud to partner with the Rochester Honkers to offer this opportunity that helps young people feel included, active and excited to try something new. It’s what our Year About Youth is all about.”

“The Honkers could not be happier about this event. It's a wonderful opportunity for us to partner with Mayor Norton to provide the kids in our community with a chance to learn from their hometown team,” said Rochester Honkers General Manager Clint Narramore. “On behalf of the Honkers, I want to thank Mayor Norton's efforts, along with everyone's for that matter, who have helped piece this camp together.”

The free PLAY BALL camp will take place Thursday, July 10, from 9 a.m. to Noon at Mayo Field (403 East Center Street). Participants can use the parking lot at Mayo Field.

How to Register

Registration is required. Please visit the Rochester Honkers website by Thursday, July 3 to register and learn more.

Up to 300 kids will receive three hours of camp with Honkers players, a camp shirt, lunch, a ticket to the Honkers game that night, a run on the field with the Honkers and an opportunity to win MLB prizes.
