Celebrating 50 Years of AccessABLE Recreation

June 3, 2025 – ROCHESTER, MINN. – The City of Rochester Parks & Recreation Department is excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of AccessABLE Recreation, a program that has helped people of all abilities enjoy fun activities for half a century.

Starting in 1975, AccessABLE Recreation began as a small program with a few activities like arts and crafts, swimming and summer camps. Today, it serves over 1,700 people each year, offering sports, music, dances, holiday events, an adult day recreation program, after school programs and more. Programs like Miracle League softball and swim lessons give people of all abilities a chance to learn, play and have fun.

"Our goal has always been to help people grow through play," said AccessABLE Recreation Coordinator Sue Miller. "We want everyone to have fun, make friends and build skills that help them in everyday life."

The City thanks all participants, families and community partners who have made this program successful over the years. Their support has helped make Rochester a welcoming place for everyone.
