The City of Rochester Celebrates Building Safety Month

May 8, 2025, ROCHESTER, MINN. – The City of Rochester celebrates its building safety professionals during Building Safety Month. These teammates focus on issuing building permits and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with City, State and National building codes to enhance safety, energy efficiency and accessibility.

City Administrator Alison Zelms shares, “Building safety might not always be top of mind, but it’s behind everything that makes our homes, schools, and businesses safe and strong. Our Community Development team works hard every day to make sure the places we live and gather are built to last. This month, we’re proud to celebrate their work and remind everyone—building safety is a shared mission – and together, we lay the foundation for a safer tomorrow."

The City Hall dome lights will be lit green on Wednesday, May 14 in honor of Building Safety Month.

This year’s campaign, “Game On!,” encourages people to “Get in the game and celebrate building safety!” The campaign makes the connection between building codes and our personal safety, as well as the important work done by building safety professionals in our communities.
