The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Dental Rule became effective on July 14, 2017. The Dental Rule consists of pretreatment standards aimed at reducing discharges of mercury from dental offices into wastewater treatment plants. Dental facilities can be a source of mercury due to the use of mercury-containing dental amalgam fittings.
