Curb & Gutter Replacement

As part of our ongoing preventative maintenance program, the Street Maintenance Division will be removing and replacing select sections of curb and gutter throughout the City. If it is determined that portions of the concrete curb and gutter in front of your driveway require replacement due to breakage, settling, or water retention, you will receive notification from Public Works. This work is essential to maintaining street quality and will be completed before milling and overlaying, which is tentatively scheduled to take place within the next year. There is no direct cost to the property owner for this work.

After the concrete is poured, a curing period of three days is required before vehicles can drive over it. Please note that one potential reason for curb and gutter replacement is settlement caused by private sewer and water trench work. The City will reinstall the curb at its original elevation to ensure proper water drainage. In many cases, the driveway approach behind the curb may also have settled, which may result in the newly replaced curb being higher than the existing driveway approach, creating a bump.

To mitigate this, the City may install a temporary asphalt wedge. However, maintaining the driveway approach is the property owner's responsibility. The City will not provide upkeep for the temporary wedge if it deteriorates over time. Property owners typically address this condition through mud/foam jacking or by replacing the affected driveway approach panel(s).
