Parking Ramp Maintenance Mar-Oct 2025

Category: Public Parking

March 10, 2025 – ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA

The City of Rochester is committed to maintaining its public parking ramps through a four-year maintenance and repair cycle that includes a condition assessment and completion of recommended repairs. These projects extend the useful lives of the parking ramps and help ensure they remain safe for use and operation. The ramp restoration projects listed below are part of this standard cycle.

  • Center Street Ramp repairs and reconstruction
    March 10 through October, weather-dependent

Construction will be completed in phases to keep the ramp open and provide parking. The number of parking spaces available will depend on the amount of restoration and repair work being performed. Depending on the phase, the available parking spaces will range from as few as 100 to as many as 350. Phase one of the work, which is expected to last into early May, will have the greatest impact, with approximately 100 parking spaces available.

The 3rd Street Parking Ramp and Parking Ramp 6 are recommended alternatives to the Center Street Ramp during construction.

  • 2nd Street Ramp repairs and reconstruction
    March 10 through October, weather-dependent

Construction will be completed in phases to keep the ramp open and provide parking. The nature of the work on this ramp allows for minimal disruptions to available parking spaces.
  • Ramp washing and maintenance
    Rotating weekends

City parking ramps will be closed for regular cleaning and maintenance during spring and summer. The exact schedule will be determined in coordination with downtown stakeholders. Monthly parkers at the impacted ramp will have badge access to all other City ramps during the closure.

The work typically follows this schedule:

    • Friday: Entry to the ramp closes and all vehicles must be out before the posted time, usually midday. Floor preparations begin.
    • Saturday to Sunday: Ramp remains closed for cleaning.
    • Monday: Ramp opens at 5 a.m.

The City operates six parking garages and seven surface parking lots in the downtown area. All parking ramps are connected to the skyway, which allows for pedestrian travel that is protected from the weather.
